Job Summary

To provide technical backstopping and monitor the overall implementation of the SHARE project that CLIENT is currently implementing with a funding support.


The current ToR is aimed at recruitment of a national nutrition consultant who will be responsible to conduct field and Addis level monitor of the implementation of SHARE project and provide the necessary technical backstopping to Implementing partners.
The need for this consultancy is therefore to recruit a highly qualified nutrition expert who will fully be engaged in monitoring the project implementation and providing technical assistance to the section in accelerating completion of delayed activities. This is through monitoring and close follow up of the NGOs and government partners in order to ensure activities are being implemented as per the plan and meeting the agreed standard of quality.
Specific Tasks
  • Provide technical support and monitor the overall implementation of the project with special focus to completion of delayed activities
  • Provide monitoring support and close follow up of ongoing implementation by five PCA partners  and ensure activities are on track and in line with expected results stipulated in the project.
  • Identify core achievements, lessons as well as key areas of improvement by regularly visiting project woredas and implementation at the ground level and submit a field report to the section.
  • Support the finalization of tools for adaptive nutrition services by AAH and better integration of nutrition services into ANC by IMC.
  • Provide technical support to ministry of agriculture and natural resources in mainstreaming of nutrition into agriculture with special emphasis to the development of a nutrition-sensitive agriculture manual for experts and agriculture DAs.
  • Support implementation of CINUS through collecting and compiling training manuals, guidelines, IEC/BCC materials and other necessary documents are made available for each activities planned under CINUS.
  • Visit non regions to extracts lessons learnt for implementation in the woredas (visit to Afar, B’Gumuz DRS joint projects)
  • The expert will be based in CLIENT Ethiopia Addis Ababa office with frequent field trips to the project woredas.
  • The consultant will provide detailed field reports to the micronutrient and CBN unit head of CLIENT ECO nutrition section with clear recommendations and timed action points.
  • The consultant will track implementation of recommendations and actions points stemmed from the field visits.
  • The consultant will work closely with the key government ministries/institutions; ministry of health & ministry of agriculture, UN agencies-UNFAO, NGOs in addition to ensure they have they have the capacity to act on the recommendations from the field trips.
Expected Deliverables
  • Monitoring visits conducted and the required technical backstopping provided to implementing partners of the project and field visit findings shared with the section.
  • At least one review meeting organized for PCA partners at Addis level and proceeding report submitted to the section.
  • Technical support provided to Ministry of agriculture and natural resources in the development of a national level nutrition-sensitive agriculture training manual to be used for agriculture experts and DAs.
  • All required documents for CINUS implementation compiled for ease of access and commence the actual activities.
  • Technical backstopping to NGOs, MoANR & MoH in project woredas to strengthen existing initiatives to mainstream nutrition into PSNP.
  • The consultant has to submit monthly progress reports to the Nutrition section of CLIENT ECO.
  • The consultant will report to the P4 Nutrition specialist (micronutrient and CBN unit head) 

Job Requirements:

Expected background and Experience
  • Education requirements: advanced university degree in nutrition, public health, food security, international health and nutrition, and other related field of experience is required.
  • Employment experience: At least 5 years of professional work experience, with progressively greater management in nutrition programmes at the national and regional levels. Proven track record of working in nutrition programmes with UN and INGOs or other development agencies in Ethiopia. Proven record in working in EU funded projects. Proven track record and knowledge in nutrition sensitive agriculture programs an asset. Experience in monitoring gender inequalities and in programming interventions that reduce these inequalities an asset.
  • Language requirement: Fluency in English and Amharic required. 
  • Competencies: Knowledge of latest issues, development and trends in nutrition security, food security. Strong facilitation and management, monitoring and evaluation skills. Flexibility to travel at short notice, sometimes to difficult and hazardous locations.
  • Nationality: Candidates should be NATIONALS of Ethiopia.
General Conditions: 
  • The consultant will not be provided with lodging and/or meals.
  • The contract should ensure the consultant will use his/her own office materials, i.e. computer, EVDO etc.
