Job Description:

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) wants to recruit employees in the following vacant positions the details of which are mentioned bellow.

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) is established on the eve of Ethio- Italian war, on July, 8, 1935 and signed the Geneva Convention July 25 of the same year and became 48th member of League of Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies on 25, September 1935. Since then the Society have engaged on providing Humanitarian services & community based development initiatives.

Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 11 Regional Offices, 32 Zonal Branches and 112 District/Woreda Branches and 3673 grass root committees/Kebele Red Cross Committees.

1. Job Title: Head, SG Office
Work Unit/ Project/ Program: Secretary General
Terms of employment: Permanent
Place of Work: Addis Ababa
Salary: 24,630.00
  • Plans, coordinates and ensures the SG’s schedule is followed and respected.
  • Serves as the liaison between the SG and Board Directors, Executive bodies etc.
  • Communicates directly, and on behalf of the Board oLf Directors and SG, with Board members, Chief executives, donors and others on matters related to SG’s programmatic initiatives.
  • Organizes, arranges and schedules regular and extraordinary meetings and discussions to be held with the SG and different stake holders of the Society; takes minutes of meetings and gets same duly signed by all participants.
  • Edits and completes first drafts for written communications to external stake holders Strategic initiatives.
  • Assures the quality of communications to external stake holders from SG office
  • Maintains discretion and confidentiality in all consulting matters with all Board of Directors and SG, Chief executives and consistently makes sound decisions based on business knowledge, analysis and logic.
Qualification Requirements: Second/First degree in Business Administration/ Public Administration/ Economics/ Law or related field from accredited university and a minimum of 8/10 years of progressively responsible and diversified executive level administrative management and supervisory experience to include successfully demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of major policies, procedures and in the effective delegation of authority and responsibility. Experience interacting with executives and /or board of director members.
Required skills:
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills to perform multiple tasks clearly with excellent attention to detail
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, board members, external partners and donor.
  • Expert level written and verbal communication skills and forward looking
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability. Can do attitude towards problem solving!
2. Job Title: Sr. Communication & Partnership Officer
Work Unit/ Project/ Program: HDGM Affairs
Terms of employment: Permanent
Place of Work: Addis Ababa
Salary: 12,834.00
  • Participates and assists to plan and organize communicate and partnership management activities of the Society;
  • Assists in representing the Society in dealings with press, radio, television and other publicity media, attends meetings and social functions 9nd events, and uses skill in communication (PR) techniques to obtain desired visibility.
  • Advises and proposes best suited communication activities to address issues or problems;
  • Develops and maintains media relations to ensure visibility and for coverage of the work of the Society by the media; builds up contacts with media representatives and partner organizations;
  • Boosts and maintains the external visibility of the Society through publicizing its activities in various medic and providing feedback from the public to service providers;
Qualification Requirements: Minimum of First degree in Journalism/ English Literature/ Theatrical art/ Amharic Literature/ Political Science & International Relations/ Education/ Pedagogical Science/ work/Sociology/Applied Psychology/ Social Anthropology/Applied Psychology /Philosophy/ Law/ Humanities or any other relevant Social Science field/ Public Administration /Management and 6 years relevant work experience.

3. Job Title: Communication & Partnership Officer
Work Unit/ Project/ Program: Humanitarian Diplomacy
Governance & Membership Affairs Dep’t
Terms of employment: Permanent
Place of Work: Addis Ababa
Salary: 8,813.00
  • Assists in formulating the communication strategy, policies and procedures of the Society;
  • Collects, sorts, analyzes and organizes information for the Society’s publications and other periodical publications as well as for publicity by other medics and tools;
  • Prepares scripts for public speeches, media conferences, handles audience and readership feedbacks in consultation with superior, etc. as instructed;
  • Compile communication materials of the work unit for the preparation for documentation and publicity;
  • Arranges and facilitates audiovisual works for meetings, conferences, special social functions or events organized and staged to further enhance the Society’s goodwill and favorable publicity;
Qualification Requirements: Minimum of First degree in Theatrical Science, Public relations, Journalism & Communication/ English Literature/ Amharic Literature/ Political Science and International Relations, Philosophy, Law and other relevant Humanities educations and 4 years related experience
