Job Description:

EWNRA with financial support from Menschen fur Menschen Switzerland (MfMCH) is currently implementing a project entitled: “Richer Life” in Abbaya and Gelana Woredas of West Guji Zone, Oromia Regional State with overall goal of addressing the livelihoods of vulnerable community groups to reduce outmigration within the project intervention woredas. Currently, EWNRA is looking to hire professionals to fill the following vacant posts and seeking a competent candidate and invites interested candidates to apply for the vacant posts.

Cooperative and Marketing Officer

Summary of job description: Under the supervision of and being accountable to Gelana Sub Office Project Assistant Coordinator, the Cooperative and Marketing Officer is responsible, independently and/or with other staff members for organizing and providing technical support to cooperatives and marketing and value chain development activities. In addition, he/she has the following specific duties and responsibilities:
  1. Facilitate the establishment of cooperative societies where it is deemed necessary in consultation with local communities and responsible government institutions including Cooperative Promotion Offices at woreda level.
  2. Follow up the existing cooperative societies within the project intervention localities and provide the necessary technical support for strengthen them.
  3. Facilitate/undertake capacity building activities/trainings for cooperative society leaders and employees in various topics such as cooperative principles and management, financial management, business plan development and related topics.
  4. Involve in the selection of community members that directly benefit through project intervention activities within project intervention kebeles,
  5. Involve in data collection, processing and keep proper records of community members who have benefited from the project intervention and report accordingly,
  6. Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual action plans and reports and submit to the project team coordinator/s,
  7. Closely work with cooperative societies leaders, employee, cooperative promotion government employees, kebele level development workers, extension agents and project staffs
  8. Follow up the execution of the projects activities focused on livelihood and marketing
  9. Study marketing challenges within the project intervention localities and develop marketing plans to support communities to effectively engage in marketing of their products.
  10. Coordinate promotional and marketing roles and value chain activities,
  11. Supervise marketing activities at local community level and undertake periodic monitoring of the impacts of ongoing marketing interventions,
  12. Facilitate business plan development for farmers, cooperatives, women groups and other local level networks.
  13. Conduct market value chain analysis for targeted communities in EWNRA intervention localities when deemed necessary,
  14. Provide technical support and undertake capacity building on market value chain analysis and the practicality for stakeholders and local communities
  15. Work in integrity, team sprit, responsiveness, accountability and commitment for the success of the project,
  16. Elaborate training materials related to cooperative society management
  17. Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual action plans and reports and submit to the project office and the PPME Officer,
  18. Organize regular meetings with cooperative society leaders and their employees to discuss and plan
  19. Achieve other activities directed by the immediate supervisor
Qualifications and Experience: the potential candidate for the post should have B.Sc degree from recognized Universities/Colleges in Cooperatives, Rural Livelihoods and Development (with background in Agriculture), Marketing, Agricultural Extension and Rural Development or combination of these and other closely related fields. Besides s/he should have at least 6 years of demonstrable work experience in areas of Integrated Rural Development (IRD), Cooperative development, Marketing, Livelihoods and Food Security. NGO experience is an advantage.

Additional Requirements for the Position:
  • Competency In computer applications of MS Offices packages is required.
  • Understanding and speaking local language, Oromifa is mandatory.
  • Cooperative, team player, gender sensitive and excellent in interpersonal relationships.
  • Have a strong commitment and openness to learn and share.

Salary: As per the organization’s scale
Terms of employment: With 45 days of provisional period for one year contract with possibility of renewal for additional two years on annual basis.
