Job Description:

EWNRA with financial support from Menschen fur Menschen Switzerland (MfMCH) is currently implementing a project entitled: “Richer Life” in Abbaya and Gelana Woredas of West Guji Zone, Oromia Regional State with overall goal of addressing the livelihoods of vulnerable community groups to reduce outmigration within the project intervention woredas. Currently, EWNRA is looking to hire professionals to fill the following vacant posts and seeking a competent candidate and invites interested candidates to apply for the vacant posts.

Agronomist (Crop/Horticulture/Coffee)

Under supervision of and accountable to the Gelana Sub Office Project Assistant Coordinator the Crop/Horticulture/Coffee Agronomist will be in charge of project activities to be implemented within local communities in Gelna woeda. Responsible for implementation of project activities which include interactive training and learning support on crop and vegetable production, coffee management, nursery and seedling management, coffee processing, taking actions in collaboration with project intervention woredas agriculture and coffee institution, responsible for preparing monthly reports for the activities undertaken within the woreda to the facilitators and PPME Officer, keep appropriate records of community members who are supported by the project. Work in close collaboration with other staff members within the project.
Specific responsibilities Includes:
  1. Organize and facilitate/undertake capacity building activities/trainings in various topics such as crop and vegetable production, coffee management, coffee processing, nursery and seedling management and vegetable marketing.
  2. In dose collaboration with kebele level Development Workers, facilitate the selection of community members that directly benefit through project intervention activities through vegetable production and coffee management,
  3. Involve in data collection, processing and keep proper records of community members who have benefited from the project intervention in vegetable and coffee and report accordingly,
  4. Follow up and support farmers who involve in vegetable production and marketing and coffee management,
  5. Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual action plans and reports and submit to the project office and the PPME Officer,
  6. Closely work with community groups, kebele and cooperative offices,
  7. Involve starting from beneficiaries selection, distribution of vegetable and coffee seeds and seedlings, and support farmers who Involve in vegetable production and marketing; coffee management,
  8. Provide technical input on vegetable and coffee management, work in close collaboration with project kebele level development facilitators, kebele administration, cooperative leaders, development workers and woreda level experts
  9. Elaborate training and extension materials related to vegetable and coffee management,
  10. Contribute to the design of training program for community members incorporating issues related to vegetable and coffee management
  11. Any other activity that may be required by the project sub office coordinators.
Qualifications and Experience: the potential candidate for the post should have Bachelor degree from recognized Universities/Colleges in Horticulture (including Crop and Coffee Agronomy) or other closely related fields. Besides, s/he should have at least 6 years of demonstrable work experience in areas of Horticulture at community level. NGO experience is an advantage.

Additional Requirements 
  • Competency In computer applications of MS Offices packages is required.
  • Understanding and speaking local language, Oromifa is mandatory.
  • Cooperative, team player, gender sensitive and excellent in interpersonal relationships.
  • Have a strong commitment and openness to learn and share.

Salary: As per the organization’s scale
Terms of employment: With 45 days of provisional period for one year contract with possibility of renewal for additional two years on annual basis.
