Job Title: Accountant
Reports to: IGA Manager

Job Summary: The main responsibilities of the Accountant are to analyze financial transactions, prepare financial statements and report same to management and other relevant stakeholders, prepare payroll and effect payments for purchases, utilities, stationery. Maintenance, bills, etc. He/ She is also responsible to establish, operate, monitor and periodically summarize the financial operations and performance of the IGA, authorizes payments as per the limit of authority, approves vouchers after verification, handles all services and material purchases, and prepares monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements or reports
Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Process payments made in case or check when he/she receives an authorized payment voucher to individual or organizations.
  2. Prepare payroll and effect payments of the IGA Office based on appropriate approval.
  3. Makes a reconciliation of cash balance with payment voucher.
  4. Analyzes operations, trends, costs revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred, to project future revenues.
  5. Develops, maintains, analyzes budgets, and prepares periodic reports comparing budged costs to actual costs.
  6. Analyzes records of financial transactions to determine accuracy and completeness of entries, using computer.
  7. Prepares balance sheet, income statement, amortization and depreciation schedules, and other financial reports, using calculator or computer.
  8. Reports finances of establishment to management, and advises management about resource utilization, tax strategies, and assumptions underlying budget forecasts.
  9. Develops, implements, modifies, and documents budgeting, cost, general, property and tax accounting systems.
  10. Predicts revenues and expenditures, and submits reports,
  11. Computes taxes owed, ensures compliance with tax payment, reporting and other tax requirements, and represents the Association before taxing authority.
  12. Establishes charts of accounts, and assigns entries to proper accounts.
  13. Keeps records of the amount of money received and paid.
  14. Maintains records and files in the most accessible and safe ways.
  15. Develops, installs and maintains budgeting systems that monitor and control expenditure.
  16. Authorizes payments as per limits of authority.
  17. Arranges audits of the IGA’s accounts.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Education: BA/BSc/MA/MBA in Accounting, related fields of studies
Experience: 5 years of relevant work experience for MA/MBA and 7 years of relevant work experience for BA/BSc.
Personal qualities:
  • Language: Proficiency in English, Amharic and knowledge of other national and international languages is an advantage.
  • Skills: Basic Computer and interpersonal skills.
