Its head office is located in Addis Ababa and its plant is based in Adama, which is 99 kms south-east of Addis Ababa, a town considered as a hub for all kinds of dry pulse supplies and on the main road to Djibouti port. Since October 2006 ACOS Ethiopia has been running at full capacity using its modern plant which is at the cutting edge not only for the horn of Africa but probably for the whole African continent. The company has received several awards from high level government officials for its excelling performance in the export sector. Since its establishment, ACOS Ethiopia managed to export more than150000 MT of various types of dry pulses, mainly to the European market.
Plant
The plant employs 350 people. They work inside a new structure, designed to satisfy the most stringent hygiene and health requisites. The ultra-modern plant is in line with European standards for the farming and food industry and offers a safe work environment in which operations are carried out in full respect of people’s rights. The plant, which covers a surface area of around 10,000 m², is equipped with modern machineries for processing wide range of dry pulses; an X-ray machine to detect all kinds of foreign materials, a high-tech optical selector, conveyor belts for hand picking and 6 steel silos equipped with external stairways, each with a capacity of around 1,000 metric tons. Through its plant in Ethiopia, ACOS envisages to play a dominant role in the supply chain of dry pulses in Ethiopia, from the search for raw materials all the way to shipment of the merchandise to the final customers. Even though the company handles wide range of commodities, Navy Pea Beans, (white pea beans), small red beans, Dark Red Kidney Beans, creamy beans , chickpeas and sesame seeds constitute major products. ACOS Ethiopia’s customers are the major canning industries based in Europe & other parts of the world.
Research and development
ACOS Ethiopia’s success is based on a combination of synergies, including the implementation of contractual agreements with various farmers’ cooperative unions for the cultivation of different kinds of pulses, thereby strictly observing company’s quality specifications. Through an agreement with the Agricultural Research Centers, required adaptability tests are carried out on newly introduced materials supplied by the company with a view to determine their adaptability to our environmental set up. Using this process, ACOS has managed to secure registration of two commodities from the mandated government body (National Variety Release Committee). All the know-how gathered from these exercises is passed on to the farmers within the project areas, thereby enhancing the development of the Ethiopian agricultural sector, the true foundation of the economy of this African state.
Corporate Social Responsibility
To top off this cooperation, ACOS is also committed in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility, and has undertaken to promote, along the entire production chain, respect for people, the prevention of discrimination of any kind, safety in the workplace and protection and social development of the communities involved. ACOS has also established a day care center within its premise. The Center provides education free of charge, both for the kids of its workers & neighboring farmers who couldn’t afford to send their children to school. Of course, such an exercise will encourage social development of the community. In this way the workers of ACOS Ethiopia will be able to work with full confidence that their children are in safe and good hands.
Quality Policy
ACOS Ethiopia P.L.C. bases its production philosophy on the constant & continuous effort to meet customers’ satisfaction as well as observing regulatory and statutory requirements and performing well on technological sensory and health (hygienic) level. Our finished products embrace high level of quality thereby complying with environmental protection principles.
