Job Description:


Candidates must have extensive knowledge and experience of peace and security issues at regional, continental and multilateral levels. Applicants must be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the African Union’s peace and security architecture, and possess an extensive network of contacts relevant to the post’s demands.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree, but preferably Masters level, in a field such as International Studies, Political Science, Peace/Conflict Studies, Conflict Resolution, Law, Human Rights.
Five years of progressively responsible management experience in areas relevant to the requirements of this position.
Proven track record in the effective management of highly skilled teams, financial resources and monitoring, evaluation & learning processes.
Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches and demonstrable practical experience within a relevant institution in peace and security; peace building; peacekeeping operations; conflict prevention, management and resolution; conflict early warningand response; or post conflict reconstruction.
Familiarity with key regional and multilateral policies, institutions and programmes relevantto peace and security.
Sound knowledge and experience of recent developments and approaches in international practice of peace and security, and related sectors including gender, humanitarian action and climate change.
Good understanding of the policies and approaches of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Ireland in Ethiopia.
Excellent written and spoken English. High proficiency in written and spoken French and/or Arabic is also desirable.
Excellent computer skills including on Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point.
Legal entitlement to live and work in Ethiopia prior to recruitment.

Selection Process:
Depending on the number of applications received, a short-listing of candidates to be called for interview may be undertaken based on the Key Requirements above. 
A written exam will be administered to test writing skills.
Only successful candidates will be contacted. It is planned that interviews will be held by video-conference in early December 2020.

Security Clearance:
Police security clearance will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for appointment. Enquiries may also be made with the police force of any country in which the applicant under consideration for appointment resided. If unsuccessful this information will be destroyed. If the applicant subsequently comes under consideration for another position they will be required to supply this information again.
